What is copper wire mesh?
Copper woven wire mesh is also referred to as red copper wire mesh, pure copper wire mesh, copper mesh, copper mesh cloth, copper mesh fabric, copper screen, ….
Copper wire mesh can be woven with wire threads by plain weave, twill weave, dutch weave. In other words, it’s created by weaving wires in an over-under pattern. Each warp wire and each weft wire pass over one, two or other amounts of wires, and then under the next one, two or other amounts of wires. In addition, two distinct sets of wires are straight and at right angles to each other.

What is the size of a wire mesh?
We also call the size of wire mesh as mesh size, mesh counts, mesh numbers. It means how many openings per inch or 25.4 mm. So for any one liner inch distant, the higher the mesh size, the more the quantity of holes, the smaller the size of the opening. And then the smaller the particle can pass through.
Please note: if we only know the mesh size, usually, we cannot confirm the needed mesh. Material, wire diameter and aperture size are also necessary. A drawing or a simple sketch is essential for deep processing products with special shape and size.
- What size is 40 mesh?
It’s the mesh which has 40 openings per inch in both directions. Its wire diameter can be 0.254 mm. If so, the opening size will be 0.38 mm, and micron size is 380. Therefore, the mesh can save particles over 0.38 mm, and filter ones smaller than 0.38 mm.
How do I know my screen mesh size?
It’s simple to figure out the mesh size. You just need to know how many holes in an inch of your screen. Because the mesh size is the number of openings per inch.
- If it’s a coarse mesh and there aren’t too many holes per linear inch, counting is a good choice. For example, #2 mesh screen has only 2 openings on both sides. 4 mesh screen size means the copper mesh screen has 4 openings in both directions.
- But if it’s a fine mesh, it may be hard to count because of too many holes and too small hole size. For instance, we need to confirm if there are 200 holes per inch for a 200 mesh size screen. It’s very time-consuming. So how do you specify wire mesh size?
- We can use tools to measure wire diameter and hole size firstly.

- How thick is the mesh?
Thickness of woven wire mesh is related to its wire diameter. The overall thickness is approximately equal to the warp wire diameter plus the weft / filling / woof wire diameter.
