What is hastelloy wire mesh screen?
Hastelloy wire mesh screen is produced by weaving two distinct sets of hastelloy wires (warp and weft / woof / filling wires) at right angles. Each warp and weft wire passes over one, two or other amounts of wires, and then under the next one, two or other amounts of wires. There are four main weaves according to different inter-structure of the mesh: plain, dutch, twilled, twilled dutch. For example,
Plain woven wire mesh is the mesh where warp and weft wires pass over one, and then under the next adjacent wire on both sides.
Warp and weft wires of twilled woven wire cloth need to pass over two, and then under two successive wires in both directions.
Hastelloy wire woven mesh varies widely in its mesh size, wire diameter, hole size. Moreover, it can be cut, formed into many kinds of shapes, like round wire mesh disc, rectangular woven mesh filter discs, metal mesh filter caps, filter screen tubes, …
As a result, hastelloy wire mesh screen is suitable for a wide range of environments.
Weaving type of hastelloy wire mesh screen
Plain weave, Twill weave, etc.
Weave types are different because of different interlacing of warp and weft wires and different wire diameter.
We also call Hastelloy C276 as UNS N10276, Alloy C276, C276 Alloy, 2.4819.
Mesh metrics: mesh counts, wire diameter and hole size
Mesh counts: 2-200 mesh
Wire diameter: the thickness of one single wire.
Opening / Aperture / Hole size: the distance between two adjacent parallel wires.
Micron size can also tell us something about the hastelloy mesh. Because it typically refers to the nominal opening size. For example, 250 micron mesh screen possesses 0.25 mm aperture size. 75 micron mesh possesses 0.075 mm aperture size.
From the screen mesh size chart, we can also figure out that opening size of 40 mesh hastelloy c276 wire mesh will be 0.38 mm if its wire diameter is 0.254 mm. And then, we can say its micron size is about 380.
How do you calculate the mesh size of hastelloy wire mesh screen?
Mesh size is also known as mesh count, mesh number. The numerical value indicates the number of openings / holes per linear inch of a hastelloy metal mesh. For example:
20 mesh hastelloy wire mesh has 20 holes per linear inch in both directions.
40 mesh hastelloy wire mesh possesses 40 holes per linear inch on both sides.
60 mesh hastelloy wire mesh has 60 openings per inch.
There are 80 openings per inch for 80 mesh hastelloy wire mesh.
There are 100 holes per linear inch for 100 mesh hastelloy wire mesh.
Depending on the relationship among mesh count, wire diameter and opening size, we can calculate mesh size.
Firstly, using a micrometer to measure the wire diameter.
Secondly, measuring the opening / hole size by ruler or vernier caliper.
For coarse mesh, counting is also a good choice to confirm the mesh size. For instance,
10 mesh hastelloy wire mesh: it’s easy to figure out that there are 10 openings per inch by counting.
20 mesh hastelloy wire mesh: we can count 20 holes per inch.
For fine hastelloy mesh, measuring opening size is difficult. So calculating isn’t a good choice to know the mesh size.
Moreover, it’s pretty hard to confirm mesh size by counting. Because that, usually, the larger the mesh number, the more the quantity of holes per inch, the smaller the screen opening size.
However, we can know something about mesh size by microscopes.

Hastelloy C-276 wire mesh screen is suitable for the most severe chemical processing, pollution control, pulp & paper, food processing, pharmaceutical, waste treatment and flue gas desulfurization systems applications.
Hastelloy C-276 wire cloth is a nickel-molybdenum-chromium superalloy. Alloy C-276 is suits for extremely corrosive reducing and oxidizing settings.
