What is Monel wire mesh?
Monel screen is a woven wire cloth. Its color and appearance nearly match that of stainless steel wire mesh. But theirs properties are different. The highest mesh size of them are also different. For example, mesh size of 316L stainless steel wire mesh can up to 635, but Monel woven mesh size can only up to 200 for now.
So how is woven wire mesh made?
Monel 400 | k500 wire mesh is a wire mesh screen, which is interlaced with two distinct sets of wires at right angles. Each warp and weft (woof / filling) wire pass over one, two or other amounts of wires, and then under the next one, two or other amounts of wires.
There are four main weaves according to different inter-structure of the mesh: plain, dutch, twilled, twilled dutch. For example, plain woven wire mesh is the mesh where warp and weft wires pass over one, and then under the next adjacent wire in both sides. Warp and weft wires of twilled woven wire cloth need to pass over two, and then under two successive wires in both directions.
What is wire mesh called?

What is Monel made of?
Monel is the trademark name for a family of nickel alloys, with copper as the second composition, and also has some iron, manganese, carbon, and silicon. Sometimes we also call it nickel-copper alloy.
What does Monel metal contain?
Monel alloys vary widely in their compositions, but all are predominantly nickel (from 52 to 67%), with copper as the second element.
Is Alloy 400 same as Monel?
No. Monel is a group of alloys. However, Alloy 400 is Monel 400, which is only one of them.
Alloy 400 wire mesh possesses good resistance in a wide variety of corrosive environments. And it has high strength. Actually, Alloy 400 is the most widely used Monel material. Monel screen mesh is widely used in application, including marine engineering, chemical and hydrocarbon processing, heat exchangers, valves, and pumps.
What is Monel K500?
Chemical composition of Monel K500 material is copper (between 27% and 33%), aluminum (2.3%-3.15%), titanium (0.35%-0.85%), iron (<2.0%), manganese (<1.5%), silicon (<0.5%), nickel (>63%).
Monel k500 woven wire mesh provides exactly the same corrosion resistance with mesh Monel 400. But it has greater strength and hardness because of the addition of aluminum and titanium.
Mesh metrics: mesh counts, wire diameter and hole size
Mesh counts: 2-200 mesh
Wire diameter: the thickness of one single wire.
Opening / Aperture / Hole size: the distance between two adjacent parallel wires.
Micron size can also tell us something about the Monel wire cloth. Because it typically refers to the nominal opening size. For example, 250 micron mesh screen possesses 0.25 mm aperture size. 75 micron mesh possesses 0.075 mm aperture size.
What is the size of wire mesh?
Wire mesh size is also called mesh size, mesh counts, mesh numbers. It means how many openings per inch or 25.4 mm. So for any one liner inch distant, the higher the mesh size, the more quantity of holes, the smaller size of the opening. And then the smaller the particle can pass through.
For example, from the following chart, we can see that mesh size 200 is larger than 150. However, its opening size is only about 0.0737 mm, which is smaller than the hole size of 150 mesh screen.

Please note: if only know the mesh size, we cannot confirm the needed mesh. Material, wire diameter and aperture size are also necessary. A drawing or a simple sketch is essential for products with special shape and size.
What is the meaning of 20 mesh size?
It means the mesh has 20 openings per inch in both directions.
What is 24 mesh screen?
We say it’s 24 mesh screen if the mesh possesses 24 holes per inch in both sides. If wire diameter is 0.356 mm, then the hole size is about 0.7 mm, and micron size is approximately 700. So only the particles smaller than 0.7 mm can pass through the mesh.
What size is 40 mesh?
It’s the mesh which has 40 openings per inch in both directions. Its wire diameter can be 0.254 mm. If so, opening size will be 0.38 mm, and micron size is 380. Therefore, the mesh can save particles over 0.38 mm.
How do you specify wire mesh size?
Counting: we can know the mesh size by counting if it’s a coarse mesh and there isn’t too much holes per linear inch. For example, 5 mesh size, 10 mesh size, … It’s easy to know that there are 5 or 10 holes in both directions.
Calculating: if it’s hard to count, we can use tools to measure hole size and opening size to confirm the mesh counts.
