What is nichrome wire mesh?
Nichrome wire mesh cloth is a woven wire mesh where warp and weft (woof / filling) wires are interlaced at right angles. In other words, each warp wire and each weft wire pass over one, two or other amounts of wires, and then under the next one, two or other amounts of wires.
For example, plain woven wire mesh is the mesh where warp and weft wires pass over one, and then under the next adjacent wire in both sides.
In addition, two distinct sets of wires are straight and at right angles to each other.
Weaving type of nichrome wire mesh
Plain weave, Twill weave, etc.
Weave types are different because of different interlacing of warp and weft wires and different wire diameter.
Nichrome 80-20 is a nickel-chromium alloy.
We also call it UNS N06003, Nichrome 80/20, Nichrome 80, Alloy 650, Ni80Cr20.
Mesh metrics: mesh counts, wire diameter and hole size
Mesh counts: 2-100 mesh
Wire diameter: the thickness of one single wire.
Opening / Aperture / Hole size: the distance between two adjacent parallel wires.
Micron size can also tell us something about the nichrome mesh screen. Because it typically refers to the nominal opening size. For example, 250 micron mesh screen possesses 0.25 mm aperture size.
From the mesh screen size chart, we can also figure out that opening size of 40 mesh nichrome wire mesh will be 0.38 mm if its wire diameter is 0.254 mm. So we can say its micron size is about 380.

We can customize nichrome wire cloth as requirement for example cut, form, etc.
- High-temperature resistance
- Good ductility and high tensile strength
- High electrical resistance performance
- Good resistance to oxidation, carburization and reducing
Nichrome wire mesh screen is well suitable for many industries, like aerospace, military, shipbuilding, chemical.
Nichrome wire mesh suits for Electric Furnaces, Radiant Heaters, and other electrical industry applications.
Alloy 650 wire cloth is also mainly used in high-temperature and rapidly fluctuating temperature environments due to its high electrical resistance and heating resistance. As such, oil and gas applications, heating settings, etc.
